Sensory tasks at home

Short, regular activities work best. Pick one or two for each part of the day and watch what helps.

Alerting

Morning

  • Bouncing on a trampoline or couch cushions
  • Cold water on the face
  • Crunchy breakfast foods
Organising

After school

  • Wall push-ups or carrying the laundry basket
  • Animal walks to the car or letterbox
  • Quiet time with a weighted lap pad
Focus

Meal time

  • Chair with feet supported
  • Helping stir, pour and carry plates
  • Chewy or crunchy foods to start
Calming

Bedtime

  • Warm bath, then firm towel squeeze
  • Dim lights, slow rocking or a story
  • Weighted blanket if recommended by your OT

These are general ideas. Your therapist will tailor a sensory diet to your child.
